Moving toward a more equitable era

United Methodist leaders are bringing legislative proposals before the General Conference to create new regional conferences that will each have equal power to pass legislation within their prospective regions.

In this video, eight United Methodist bishops representing episcopal areas in Africa, Europe, the Philippines and the United States share why they believe the proposed regionalization legislation will help The UMC to be more connectional, contextual, equitable and just in its organization.

Christmas Covenant

The Rev Dr Stan Copeland presents the Christmas Covenant and the future of the United Methodist Church. Christmas Covenant is a set of legislation and constitutional amendments submitted to the United Methodist Church’s General Conference with the goal of establishing regional equity in the structures of the church for missional effectiveness while sustaining connectional unity.

Why regionalize the structure of the global UMC?

The Rev. Kennetha Bigham-Tsai of The Connectional Table and the Rev. Ole Birch of Denmark discuss the impact of the postponement of General Conference for the global United Methodist Church. The further postponement of General Conference emphasizes the limitations — in terms of polity and geography — with the current centralized and U.S.-centric governing structure of The United Methodist Church, says the Rev. Birch. As pastor of a church in Denmark, he supports moving to a more regionalized structure so that decisions can be contextualized to each particular ministry setting
